Job Description:
Qualifications:
The Senior SQL Database Administrator must hold the following minimum skills and expertise:
- 8+ years’ experience in SQL database administration supporting & managing databases in production environment.
- 5+ years’ experience in the following areas:
- Installing, configuring, & supporting MS SQL Server in High Availability Group configurations.
- T-SQL & ability to write scripts, stored procedures, triggers, & views to automate maintenance functions.
- 3+ years’ experience in the following areas:
- Serving as team leader, working as part of team & independently to assign/review immediate tasks, set priorities, maintain task progress, validate team members’ work consistent with organizational goals and deadlines.
- Mentoring junior personnel on proper practices/procedures.
- Planning & implementing security measures to safeguard information against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure IAW industry best practices & DISA STIGs.
- Requires TS/SCI clearance with SBI & ability to attain SI, TK, G, HCS, & NATO Secret clearance.
- Requires Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MSCA) OR SQL Server 2016/SQL Database Administration Certification.
- Requires DoD 8140.03 IAT Level II/Intermediate certification.
Responsibilities:
- Provide database administration & management support for Relational Database Management Systems (RDMS) in MS SQL server-based environment hosting databases across supported networks for various .NET applications.
- Maintain quality of service & availability of RDMSs by establishing/enforcing organizational defined standards ensuring performance, integrity, and security of databases through daily system checks; record 100% of findings and statuses to IT Portal.
- Responsible for maintaining, reporting, & updating daily checklists.
- Ensure SQL servers & instances have latest DISA STIGs applied within 30 calendar days of release and uploaded to STIG management portals where available; notify any critical findings that cannot be remediated within 3 days.
- Manipulate database objects & develop stored procedures, stored functions, & packages when needed based on customer requirements.
- Ensure healthy & reliable data replication maintained using technologies such as availability groups, etc.
- Monitor performance & manage parameters to provide fast query responses to ‘front end’ users optimizing code and stored procedures while assisting application developers with database requirements.
- Configure & utilize database connectivity tools and utilities while supporting developers, programmers, and engineers during software development.
- Map out conceptual design for database enhancements, considering both ‘back end’ organization of data and ‘front end’ accessibility for end user.
- Research, test, implement new versions of Database Management System (DBMS) for inclusion into infrastructure.
- Implement security requirements for least privileged access to organizational databases & monitor user access and security.
- Develop and maintain database documentation to include updating existing and creating new SOPs, TTPs, logical architecture diagrams, entity relationship diagrams, server lists, and other database-related documentation on monthly basis adhering to organizational templates and policies.
- Produce entity relationship and data flow diagrams, and database normalization schemas that are logical to physical data maps and data table parameters.
- Develop, manage, and test backup and recovery plans, ensuring that storage, archiving, backup, and recovery procedures functioning correctly (monthly integrity testing no less than 10% of database backups on supported networks).
- Conduct capacity planning and assist storage and architecture design.
- Review “Database Daily Checks” list on IT Portal and complete Daily System Checks assigned, including performance, data integrity, and availability checks created daily on SIPRNET portal with required actions; complete checks and update lists with status and actions taken to resolve issues.
- Review “Database Restore Checks” list on IT Portal and complete random testing, including ensuring integrity of database backups and abilities to meet Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) by regularly testing backups.
- Notify Government of any unscheduled system outages within 30 minutes of each occurrence and add to operations log within 4 hours.
- Provide after-hours on-site support to respond to system/application malfunctions; escalate unresolved issues to Project Manager.
- Ensure configuration management data updated within 1 business day of any modification or update of infrastructure.
- Provide restoration services sufficient to ensure high availability.
- Monitor and assume responsibility of trouble tickets assigned to Database Administration branch, assign specific tickets for resolution, and prioritize tickets in line with organizational goals of maintaining 99% system availability rate.
