The Network Engineer Lead manages the design and posture for the enterprise network to provide secure and reliable communications for all users. This position provides on-call network engineering support for the design, configuration, implementation, operational management, and troubleshooting of the enterprise network. The Network Engineer Lead oversees the performance of day-to-day operations, monitoring, problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution of network problems in support of engineered solutions within the DoDIN services and networks.

Qualifications:

The Network Engineer Lead must possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a strategic DoD position engineering IT solutions for NIPRNET, SIPRNET, and CPN-X (or other coalition network environments).
  • DoD 8570.01M compliance for IAT Level III with a Computer Environment Certificate for Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE).
  • Hold a Top Secret clearance.
  • Be able to demonstrate competence with the following protocols and technologies, to include but not limited to:
    • Routing protocols: Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), BGP VPN version 4 (VPNv4), Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Intermediate System to Intermediate System (ISIS), Routing Information Protocol (RIP), Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), and Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF).
    • Multicast protocols: Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM), Multicast Source Discovery Protocol (MSDP), and Multiprotocol BGP (MBGP).
    • Switching protocols: Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Common Spanning Tree (CST), Multiple Instance Spanning Tree Protocol (MISTP), Per-VLAN Spanning Tree (PVST), Rapid Per-VLAN Spanning Tree Plus (RPVST+), VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP), Dynamic Trunking Protocol (DTP), Generic VLAN Registration Protocol (GVRP), Media Access Control Authentication Bypass (MAB), Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN), and Private VLAN (PVLAN).
    • DMVPN technologies: Next Hop Resolution Protocol (NHRP) Phase 3, Per Tunnel Quality of Service (QOS), Internet Key Exchange (IKE), Internet Protocol Security (IPSEC), Easy VPN (EZVPN), and Site-to-Site Virtual Private Network (VPN).
    • IP services: Web Cache Communication Protocol (WCCP), Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA), Quality of Service (QOS), IP Service Level Agreement (IP SLA), Embedded Event Manager (EEM), System Logging Protocol (Syslog), Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP), Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), Gateway Load Balancing Protocol (GLBP), and Network Time Protocol (NTP).
    • Network management tools and protocols: Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), NetFlow, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), Cisco Works, Global Enterprise Manager-X (GEM-X), SNMPc, Access Control Server (ACS), Adaptive Security Device Manager (ASDM), and Cisco Security Manager (CSM).
    • Hardware experience: Aggregation Services Routers (ASR), Nexus Switches, Adaptive Security Appliances (ASAs), and Netscreen Firewalls.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required – may substitute additional years of experience in lieu of advanced degree
    • Additional 4 years of experience with Associate’s Degree
    • Additional 8 years of experience with High School Diploma

Responsibilities:

Additional roles and responsibilities includes, but are not limited to:

  • Provide new requirement analysis support, Configuration management system updates and Network integration support.
  • Support and facilitate demonstrations of Coalition or Joint network capabilities; may include providing support to military exercises and documenting results in technical report.
  • Support Network Engineering Deliverables; provide current network diagrams within 7 days of request.
  • Oversees the Circuit Action Engineering Support team.
  • Oversees the Wireless Engineering team.
